Hyperledger is a family of open source distributed ledger projects rather than a single blockchain, and none of them require a cryptocurrency. Fabric is the modular permissioned ledger with channel-level privacy and chaincode in general purpose languages. Hyperledger is a family of open source enterprise blockchain projects hosted under the Linux Foundation. It is not a single blockchain and not a cryptocurrency. The projects provide permissioned distributed ledger technology, identity tooling, and integration components for organisations that need shared verifiable records without a public network.

No. Hyperledger projects have no native token and no mining. Transactions are validated by known, permissioned organisations rather than by anonymous participants competing for a reward, which is a large part of why enterprises and regulators find the model easier to accept.

Choose Fabric when different subsets of participants need genuinely isolated data, since channels and private data collections are designed for exactly that. Choose Besu when you want Ethereum compatibility, Solidity, and existing EVM tooling inside a permissioned network. Team skills matter as much as features, because the platform your engineers already understand is the one you can maintain.

The software is open source and free to use, which is a small part of total cost. Real cost sits in architecture, chaincode development, integration with existing systems, security review, infrastructure, and ongoing operations. Budget for the operating commitment as much as the build. Hyperledger development starts at $12,000 for a focused implementation.

Architecture and a proof of concept take 4 to 8 weeks. A production network takes 10 to 20 weeks. On consortium networks, agreeing governance and data sharing terms between organisations frequently takes longer than the engineering, and should start in parallel.

Fabric chaincode is written in Go, Java, or Node.js, with Go the most common in production. Besu uses Solidity, the same language as public Ethereum, which is why teams with existing Ethereum skills often prefer it.

A channel is a separate ledger with its own members, suited to groups of participants who should not see each other's activity at all. A private data collection keeps sensitive fields visible only to named members while a hash is written to the shared ledger, suited to confidential elements inside an otherwise shared transaction. Choosing wrong is expensive to correct later.

Technically a network can run with one organisation, but that provides little benefit over a database. Meaningful networks usually start with three or more independent organisations, each running at least one peer, with an ordering service sized for fault tolerance. The right number follows your governance model, not a technical minimum.

Fabric identities are certificates with expiry dates, and expired certificates can halt a network. We design certificate lifecycle management with monitoring, alerting well ahead of expiry, documented rotation procedures, and rehearsal before handover. This is one of the most common causes of production incidents on otherwise healthy networks.

Yes, through gateway clients and event-driven middleware rather than direct coupling. Business events in your systems trigger ledger transactions, and ledger events update operational systems, with a translation layer between them. This is core scope in our builds, since a network requiring duplicate data entry will not be adopted.
